On the Up

At the time of writing this article it is the children’s’ first day back to school after half term, an incredibly busy half term for Dartmouth’s estate agents.

It is usually Easter that sees the start of the main selling season in the town, but this year there seems to have been so much pent up demand after a couple of years of little activity.

The demand has provided multiple viewings with sales being achieved and the writer moving from one appointment to the next from morning till evening. Activity may well quieten until the run up to Easter although the market is so unpredictable, anything can happen. The activity is throughout the price ranges with interest shown in my portfolio from £38,000 to £1,850,000.

Let’s hope the busier property market hails the start of a buoyant 2010 for all of Dartmouth’s Traders. Properties with views always tend to get a great deal of interest and this half term has been no exception with properties on the waterfront attracting attention right up to the surrounding village properties with coastal views.

The doom merchants who were predicting another poor year for property have at least so far been proved wrong again and even with uncertainties such as The General Election we are forging ahead. I am pleased to report that new instructions have been coming to the market in recent weeks and this trend needs to continue.

With Spring around the corner the stock levels need to rise to meet the expected demand of the traditionally busy Easter market. With most of the country suffering one of its coldest winters for decades, people will be looking to the South West of England for their early Spring break so let’s hope for a warm and sunny March, April and May.
